College

By the time I went to college, Denise and I would message each other every evening, continuing to create our Serendipity world. It was huge, spanning 20 plus stories, all written in script form. That was the first time I had learned character speech and I had become really good at it. I could tell a story through characters, not through descriptions.  I was still very hesitant with my writing, as I wasn't as good as Denise. Her stories were filled to the brim with descriptive language, fantastic story telling, and wonderful dialogue. She at one point wanted to turn our script form stories into actual ones, filling in the gaps with descriptions. I tried at first, really did but I did not have the capability at the time to really do it.  My parts looked felt like child's play compared to hers. We stopped that and just kept the script form.  While writing with Denise, I was reading fanfiction on a site called Fanfiction.net. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. Between ...

The Insanity Begins

It was Denise who thought of the idea first. Put our characters, Shakespeare, and Gundam Wing together in a story. What do you get?  Utter insanity.  The premise was that our characters plus Gundam Wing 's characters would be tasked to put on a Shakespearean play. If you haven't seen ANY Gundam series then you wouldn't know that those characters, in any Gundam era, tend to be hard, serious warrior types.  Yeah, we made fun of those characters SO BAD. We would crack up every time the notebook/messenger was passed. I think though it was when I decided to make one of the Gundam characters fall in love with one of Danie's characters that the mood changed a bit. Still hilariously funny, but finally, we got a little bit of depth.  The Dani and Heero saga was filled with utter crazy, hilarious fun with serious conversations and love moments. We rolled with it so hard that every story after that, Dani and Heero became a troupe, a canon in our minds. Very soon Danie's c...

Third Steps: High School

By high school, I had about ten-twelve notebooks filled with tales of Crystilline Heiwa Yuy, most of them incorporating her into my favorite Japanese Animation shows at the time. I gave her a pedestal to stand on, making her character this innocent girl who had to face the realities of the world, thereby growing up. Her journey, I suppose, mimicked my own. I was still learning about the world around me and my curious mind couldn't comprehend the negative aspects I had seen.  It was in Creative Writing when I met my now Serendipity Sister, Denise Davis.  I can't remember exactly the moment we started talking, but I do know that we became friends once we both realized we loved Sailor Moon .   At some point we discovered that the both of us had created our own fictional worlds with our own characters that interacted with characters from Sailor Moon.  I believe it was Denise who suggested we collaborate, have our original characters meet each other. Dani and her si...

Second Steps: Middle School

I admit it. I was one of those weird kids. I didn't fall into any clique. I was generally by myself with my own thoughts, because nothing truly interested me. I did track one year but found that I just wasn't the athletic type. For a time I was worried. Yeah, little old middle school age me was worried. I had nothing that interested me.  Then it happened, one early morning. I woke up before my alarm, something I never really did, thirty minutes in fact. I figured it would be stupid to try and go back to sleep just I just turned on the television.  And Sailor Moon came on the screen.  Ya'll know that moment when something clicks? When something just opens your mind and makes you see stars? Yeah, that was my moment.  I was brought into the world of Japanese Animation.  I had found my clique sort to speak.  I started getting up thirty minutes early to watch Sailor Moon. I became enthralled by the story and with my active imagination, my mind began to wor...

First Steps: Barbie

I never thought myself a writer. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought it would be something I would be interested in. However, I did have a large imagination.  Growing up in a middle class home, in a middle class neighborhood, I had what I needed and sometimes more. I was definitely a spoiled child, the little miracle my mom once told me. I grew up with an imagination so big it was sometimes weird. Sometimes my imagination was so big that the other kids rarely played with me because I wanted to do so many imaginary things! I didn't have many friends, but I had my Barbies and I was fine with that.  My grandmother would always give me Barbies. I had a large trash bag filled with Barbies. I would take the Barbies and create little 'plays' with music.  I never truly realized until much later that those Barbies helped me bring about my insane imagination in such a way, that it would help me put pencil to paper.  Sometimes writing does not start as writing, somet...
